I had the chance to attend this unforgettable ski week in 2022. Here’s how it went:
My friend from Lyon proposed attending Winter Pride week in Val-d’Isère, nestled in the French Alps. After sorting out the challenging logistics to reach Lyon and stocking up on ski essentials, I was ready to dive into the experience. Armed with a new iPhone, I couldn’t wait to capture it all.
The adventure began with a night in Lyon, a city with a historical center nestled between the Rhône and Saône rivers. From there, we took a train to Bourg-Saint-Maurice and then a shuttle to Tignes. Our package included a 7-night stay, a 6-day lift pass, event access, ski lessons (which we braved for 5 full days), breakfast at Le Table du Coffee (a charming chalet), dinner vouchers (great food but pricey), and a pool party with spa access (though the party vibes were underwhelming).
Sharing a flat with two strangers turned into a pleasant surprise—we ended up with a lovely Belgian gay couple and a private room with single beds.
Ski lessons were intense. I found myself in a group of people aged 20-60, and as a novice skier, I struggled to keep up. The first day, I barely managed to put on my gear before being thrown onto a challenging slope! My legs screamed after full days on the snow, but the stunning alpine views made every moment worth it.
Après-ski breaks at places like La Folie Douce were a highlight. However, nightly gay parties in cozy but cramped venues often took a backseat to my exhaustion and the anticipation of another demanding ski lesson the next day.

Benefits of Participating in Gay Ski Weeks
Participating in Gay Ski Weeks is not just about skiing—it’s a bold and inclusive celebration of who you are, surrounded by like-minded adventurers. Here’s why these fabulous events should be on your winter getaway list (and why they’re hotter than your average slope escape):
Community Vibes That Hit Different: Gay ski weeks are all about belonging. It’s a chance to drop the mask, be unapologetically you, and bond with folks who totally get it. From slope buddies to après-ski besties, it’s the ultimate vibe-check for a supportive LGBTQ+ crew.
Wild and Naughty Entertainment: Think parties, après-ski socials, and cheeky costume themes that make you feel like you’re in a snowy Pride parade. Trust us—things can get a little hot even in the cold.
Flirting on the Slopes? Yes, Please!: Whether you’re a snow bunny or a pro shredding the powder, the chance to mingle with cuties on the chairlift or during a shared lesson adds a certain… thrill.
An Inclusive Escape: It’s all about skiing (or tumbling) in a safe and accepting space. No side-eyes or awkward moments—just good vibes, empowerment, and support from a community that knows how to lift you up.
Networking, But Make It Fun: Meet interesting people from across the globe who share your love for skiing and life’s finer adventures. Who knows? You might leave with more than just a tan line and sore legs.
Celebrating Diversity in Sports: Gay ski weeks are more than just fun—they’re a statement. They challenge stereotypes, champion inclusion, and make winter sports more welcoming for everyone. Feel good while you slay the slopes!
Shared Passion, Stronger Bonds: There’s something magical about skiing with a group that shares your love for winter sports—and the après-ski vibes that follow. From cheering each other on to clinking glasses after a long day, the connections run deep.
It may not look like it, but it was my first time skiing!
What Should You Wear for Skiing, Snowboarding, and Après-Ski? ⛷️🏂
I’m finally heading to a gay ski week adventure, and it’s time to pack smart while staying stylish! From hitting the slopes to après-ski parties, staying comfortable and stylish is key! The golden rule: dress in layers to stay warm and adapt to changing conditions. Explore our ultimate ski packing list for your next winter getaway or head to your nearest Decathlon.
- Ski Goggles: Invest in quality goggles as they're crucial for clear vision and eye protection on the slopes.
- Gloves: Keep your hands dry and warm with reliable gloves.
- Base Layers: Opt for moisture-wicking fabrics like polyester or merino wool to stay dry and comfortable.
- Mid Layer and Ski Jacket Liner: Choose non-cotton materials for added warmth and versatility.
- Ski Jacket and Pants: Look for functional features like pockets for storing essentials such as ski passes.
- Snow Boots: Ensure they're waterproof for both comfort and safety during après-ski activities.
- Small Backpack: Carry essentials like water, Protein bars, lip balm, and sunscreen in a compact backpack.
- Socks: Select moisture-wicking socks to keep your feet dry and comfortable throughout the day.
I opted for a platinum outfit 🩶✨
Renting Ski Equipment: Should I Bring My Own Gear? 🎿
Wondering if you should lug your own ski gear on your trip? No worries! Most ski resorts, including those hosting LGBTQ+ ski weeks like Tignes, offer high-quality rental services for boots, skis, poles, and helmets. This ensures a seamless transition onto the slopes without the hassle of transporting your own equipment.
Why consider renting instead of bringing your own gear? Opting for rentals not only lightens your luggage load but also provides the added benefit of on-site insurance coverage. I learned this firsthand when I broke a pole during my own ski week! From Aspen to the Swiss Alps, these destinations offer tailored gear rentals, allowing you to focus on enjoying exhilarating winter sports and the LGBTQ+ inclusivity of the environment.
Are you concerned about the costs of transporting gear? Renting equipment locally eliminates expensive baggage fees and the worry of damaging your gear in transit. So why not pack light and rent instead?
Ready to hit the slopes? Pack your bags, grab your essentials, and prepare for an adventure-filled ski week experience like no other!
Other Gay Ski Holiday Essentials ⚕️
In addition to proper gear, travel insurance is an essential consideration for any ski trip. Accidents or unexpected events can occur, making it crucial to have coverage that protects you during your winter adventure. We highly recommend World Nomads for comprehensive travel insurance tailored to adventurous travelers like yourself.
However, we also encourage you to explore insurance options from our trusted partners, the German Genki, to ensure you find the policy that best suits your needs. With the right insurance coverage, you can hit the slopes with peace of mind, knowing you're protected against unforeseen circumstances.
Time for a little break reading the Bible 📖
Conclusion
Gay ski weeks are the perfect mix of adventure, community, and celebration. Whether you’re shredding the slopes at Whistler Gay Ski Week, partying at Gay Ski Week Mammoth, or soaking up the vibes at Gay Ski Week Aspen, these events are all about connection, inclusion, and fun.
Don’t forget Gay Ski Week Park City, another must-visit for epic gay skiing and unforgettable après-ski parties. I can’t wait to go back—next up for me is Gay Ski Weekend in Cortina, close to where I was born. These weeks aren’t just about skiing; they’re about making memories, forming friendships, and celebrating who you are in breathtaking winter destinations.
So, what about you? Which Gay Ski Week will you choose?
Chapped lips much?!
