  • Next Edition: 15 March - 22 March 2025

  • About: Here's my personal chronicle of this event, which is a must, especially if you are 30 or older! Espace Killy, encompassing the resorts of Val d'Isère and Tignes, epitomizes alpine charm for a gay ski week in Europe:

"My friend from Lyon, proposed that we participate in this winter pride week in Val-d'Isère, nestled in the French Alps in 2022. After extensive efforts to find the best route to Lyon (which, frustratingly, proved to be quite challenging) and numerous visits to sports shops to gather all necessary equipment, I embarked on the journey with a new iPhone in hand, eager to document the upcoming events.

I spent the first night in Lyon, a city that protrudes like a phallus, embraced by the Rhone and Saone rivers, boasting a captivating historical center. The following day, we embarked on a train journey to Bourg-Saint-Maurice, then transferred to a shuttle bus bound for Tignes. The bus ride was included in the package we booked, which offered:

7-night accommodation, 6-day lift pass, Event Pass Ski lessons (we bravely take 5 full days), Breakfast every morning at Le table du coffee (a kinda very warm chalet🤩), Dinner vouchers (French food is really delicious but price wise these vouchers are not really worth it) and Pool party with spa (but the location is not providing the right atmosphere for a party).

Opting for a special offer, we found ourselves sharing the flat with two other individuals, a surprise we hadn't anticipated. Luckily, we were paired with a delightful gay couple from Belgium and were fortunate enough to secure a private room with single beds.

During the ski lessons, I found myself in a diverse group of individuals ranging from around 20 to 60 years old. However, the program proved to be quite demanding for me, given my limited prior skiing experience, and the instructor pushed us quite hard. On the first day, I struggled even to properly put on the gear before being thrust onto the most difficult slope. The strain on my legs from skiing all day was palpable due to my lack of activity, and I had to remain intensely focused on maintaining proper form while skiing.

Despite the challenges, skiing turned out to be incredibly rewarding🏆, especially with the awe-inspiring views. Between runs, we took breaks at après-ski venues like La Folie Douce.

Every night, there were 1-2 gay parties held in cozy however tiny venues, although I often found myself too exhausted and preoccupied with the next day's lesson to fully participate."

Renting Ski Equipment

Not sure if you should bring your own ski gear? No worries! Most ski resorts, including those hosting gay ski weeks like Tignes, offer high-quality rental services for boots, skis, poles and ski helmets, ensuring a seamless transition onto the slopes. Opting for rentals not only lightens your luggage load but also provides the added benefit of on-site insurance coverage, as I experienced firsthand when I broke a pole during my own ski week. From Aspen to Switzerland, these destinations offer tailored gear rentals, allowing you to focus on enjoying the exhilarating winter sports and LGBTQ+ inclusivity without the hassle of transporting your own equipment. Plus, renting equipment locally eliminates the need for costly baggage fees or concerns about damaging your gear in transit. Pack your bags, grab your gear, and prepare for an adventure-filled ski week experience like no other.

Other Gay Ski Holiday Essentials

In addition to proper gear, travel insurance is an essential consideration for any ski trip. Accidents or unexpected events can occur, making it crucial to have coverage that protects you during your winter adventure. We highly recommend World Nomads for comprehensive travel insurance tailored to adventurous travelers like yourself. However, we also encourage you to explore insurance options from our trusted partners, such as SafetyWing and Genki, to ensure you find the policy that best suits your needs. With the right insurance coverage, you can hit the slopes with peace of mind, knowing you're protected against unforeseen circumstances.
