Why Everyone Should Embrace a Slow Day in Their Hotel

When you're on vacation, the natural urge is to pack each day with as many activities and see as many scenic views as possible. It doesn’t really matter where you’re at, be it in Venice or out in nature. For both friends and partners alike, this desire to create unforgettable experiences together can turn a relaxing getaway into a whirlwind of non-stop motion.

Now, needless to say, all of that is fun, but sometimes, it can help to just take a step back, sip on a vanilla latte from your cozy hotel room bed, and feel like you’re right at home. Actually, some of the best memories can come from a day spent lounging around your hotel and hotel room.

Now, that might sound a bit far-fetched, but there’s a lot of truth to it! Actually, embracing a slow day during your vacation can be incredibly beneficial, offering a different kind of joy and connection. You need to rest, enjoy each other’s company, and besides, once you’re well-rested, you’ll be even more excited to go out. Now, with that said, here’s why it’s a good idea for everyone to have a slow day in their accommodation!

Fabio and I have been here a lot. I remember in Hokkaido, Japan there was a world of heavenly nature and food to explore outside, but I was mentally and physically exhausted. It turns out our hotel had an onsen and free ramen 🤣. Lounging around the hotel that day in our plush robes (yukatas) has to be one of my favorite memories of our Japan trip with Fabio.

It's Ideal for Recharging Your Batteries

While yes, vacation is supposed to be a break from the everyday hustle, sometimes it can feel like you need a vacation from your vacation. The constant sightseeing and activities can be exhausting, especially for couples looking to unwind.

That’s exactly why a slow day in the hotel room can be a good idea since it allows both of you to rest and recharge. Enjoy a late start with breakfast in bed, savoring the luxury of room service. Let yourselves relax with a fresh cup of coffee or a good book. This downtime helps to reset your energy levels, making the rest of your trip more enjoyable.

Quality Couple or Friend Bonding Time

During a trip with your partner or friends, are you actually spending time with each other? There’s a difference between being together and truly connecting. A lazy day in the hotel room provides the perfect opportunity for undistracted bonding. You can look into sites like Popcorn Time to watch a movie (or show) together or enjoy other activities within the comfort of your room.

The goal is to relax while still having fun and engaging with each other. These simple, relaxed activities often lead to spontaneous laughter and meaningful conversations that stick with you far longer than any scheduled tour or attraction.

Get Your Money's Worth

Let’s not forget one of the highlights of staying in a hotel: the comfort and amenities. Depending on your accommodation, you have access to various luxuries designed for relaxation. So, by all means, just take advantage of these!

Spend the afternoon reading a book you’ve been meaning to finish, taking a long bath, or just lying on the bed and enjoying the tranquility. Sometimes, the best part of a vacation is indulging in the little pleasures you don't always get to enjoy at home.

Ideal for Avoiding Overwhelm and Burnout

We forget that as adults, we still have a lot of the tendencies of children, and therefore can only handle so much stimulation before becoming overwhelmed. A full itinerary can lead to fatigue and stress. A day of doing nothing much at all can be a lifesaver, preventing vacation burnout. It gives both of you a chance to decompress, ensuring that the highlights of your trip are remembered fondly rather than as a blur of tired faces and hurried moments.

So, whenever guilt creeps in, and you feel pressured to be constantly active on vacation, remember that it's perfectly fine to take a break from the outside world and simply be one with your hotel and hotel room.
